Lecture slides to Anki: convert your notes into cards

Already pulled terms and definitions out of your lecture slides? Paste them here, one card per line, and download a text file that Anki imports straight into a deck. No AI, no account: the conversion runs in your browser.

Term — definition converter

Recognised separators: em dash (—), spaced hyphen ( - ), colon, tab. Empty lines are ignored.

0 cards ready

Paste at least one line with a separator to see the preview.

Everything runs in your browser: your text is not sent to any server.

The full workflow: from slides to deck

  1. 1

    Select

From the slides keep only definitions, values, classifications and what the lecturer stressed.

  2. 2

    Rephrase

One fact per card: "term — short definition", not paragraphs.

  3. 3

    Convert

Paste the lines above, add a tag for subject and lecture, and download the file.

  4. 4

    Import and prune

In Anki: File → Import. After a week, rewrite or delete the cards that do not work.

How to import the file into Anki

  1. Open Anki on your computer and choose File → Import.
  2. Select the downloaded .txt file: the headers inside it already set the tab separator and the tags column.
  3. Choose the note type (for example Basic) and deck, check that Front and Back match the columns, then import.

File headers are supported from Anki 2.1.54 onwards. With older versions, set the tab separator manually.

What this tool does not do

  • It does not read PDF or PowerPoint files: it only converts text you paste.
  • It does not create cloze or image-occlusion cards: it outputs Front/Back cards.
  • It does not check whether definitions are correct: always verify against your slides.

Want to start from the slides themselves?

In Memoniq you upload slides, PDFs, notes or lecture recordings and generate flashcards, a summary with must-know points and quizzes from the same sources. On the Student plan you can export the cards for Anki (text or CSV). AI can make mistakes: review cards before studying them.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn lecture slides into Anki cards?

Pick only the facts worth memorising, rewrite them as "term — definition" lines, convert them to a tab-separated text file and import it into Anki with File → Import.

Does this converter use AI?

No. It splits each line on the first recognised separator and builds the file in your browser. Your text is not sent to any server.

What format is the downloaded file?

A UTF-8 .txt file with tab-separated columns and Anki headers (#separator:tab, #html:false and, if you add a tag, #tags column:3).

Can I make cloze cards?

This tool creates Front/Back cards. You can write cloze cards directly in Anki with the {{c1::...}} syntax; for anatomy, Anki's built-in image occlusion is a better fit.
